At the heart of Dirty Bones is a craving for connection - both digital & physical.
As a lifelong letter writer, I’ve always enjoyed the charm of sitting down & putting pen to paper. I also relish in the delight it brings my loved ones to recieve a surprise postcard in the mail. When my texts stack up & overwhelm me, writing is the perfect way to keep up connections that would otherwise get neglected. If you’ve been wanting to get into writing letters but don’t know where to start, why not join the DBCo Pen Pals United Initiative?

The DBCo Pen Pals United Initiative is for artists, readers, thinkers, and plain old people who want someone to talk to about projects, passions, and even passing fancies with. The intent here is to help people release their fear & anxiety around communicating consistently in a no-pressure program where you and your pal hold each other accountable. You don’t have to be a deep thinkor or excellent orater, even if you just love the novelty of sending mail back & forth, this pen pal program is for you.

Fill out the form to your right with your name & address, what your interests are, the kinds of people you’d like to connect with, how often you write letters, and a few more details. Our team will read all submissions & in >2 weeks you’ll be matched with a pen pal via email! From there, y’all can coordinate what your pen pal relationship will look like, including how often you write, what you’d like to write about, & who’ll write you first.

We get it, life happens! If we recieve word that your pal hasn’t been able to contact you in more than 3 weeks, we’ll check in with you directly, asking if everything’s ok & requesting that you give your pal an eta on your next correspondence. If you can’t correspond or neither us/your pal hear from you for more than a week, we’ll pair your pal with someone else.

Heck no! This is a no pressure kinda deal. Aside from asking that you stay consistent with your writing & communicate when you can’t, you’re free to send postcards, greeting cards, drawings (non-obscene of course), whatever correspondance you have the capacity for. Your writing frequency is determined by you and your pal.

The purpose of this program is to help people make friends & communicate consistently. Your relationship happens with your pal, not us, so unless there’s an issue y’all will be communicating with each other directly via email. This means you’ll also be holding each other accountable, driving the conversation yourselves, & setting the pace of your communication. Only reach out to DBCo if your pen pal is ghosting you, making you uncomfortable, or for whatever reason you need a new pen pal.

You will be contacted by us & given your pen pal’s email + a generic rundown of their responses. Y’all will both be encouraged to reach out to each other via email to introduce yourselves & figure out how often y’all want to write each other. We’ll check in one week after your match to see if you’ve reached out. Remember, this is YOUR pen pal correspondence, so it’s up to you to make sure it happens once your match is made! If y’all decide to coordinate outside of email such as exhanging social media or phone numbers, that’s up to you.

If your organization or a member of your party shows hatred for or disrespect to marginalized groups (including but not limited to, members of the LGBTQIA+, folks of color, disabled folks) we reserve the right to cancel your contract & refund you 100% of your deposit.

Predatory or sexually aggressive behavior, even if not directed at a Dirty Bones Representative
Cruel or hateful remarks, bullying, a lack of adherence to professional expectations
This is stated in the waiver/contract you sign at the time of your booking, and there are no exceptions.
There is no room in creativity & community for hate.
